Destination Halifax Launches Visit Halifax Nova Scotia Mobile Application for Visitors

Posted on Sep 15, 2011

Halifax Nova Scotia based Destination Halifax, the destination marketing organization for the Halifax Regional Municipality, is introducing a new free tool for visitors – the Visit Halifax Mobile Application, by VisitMobileTM. This Application, or ‘App’, will allow leisure and business travelers to effortlessly plan and navigate their Halifax experience using the one device most people don’t leave home without – their smartphone. This free App is accessible for use on all smartphone devices including iPhone, Blackberry and Android.

The Visit Halifax Mobile App will serve as the region’s ‘Mobile ConciergeTM,’ providing residents, visitors, cruise passengers and convention delegates with the information they need to explore the city. Once on the ground in Halifax, the App’s GPS-mapping technology will pinpoint the user’s location and provide them with up-to-date information on over two-thousand things to do in Halifax including events, attractions, restaurants, shopping, hotels and more.

“With more and more travelers using their smartphones, we wanted to ensure we found a way to connect them to the information they want when they want it,” says Patricia Lyall, president and CEO of Destination Halifax.

Using VisitMobile’s exclusive Virtual LocationTM feature, visitors can also explore different areas of the Halifax region – from Hubbards to Ecum Secum – by selecting any point of interest on the embedded map to visualize what is around them. The App also includes a ‘Favourites’ feature where points of interest, offers and promotions may be conveniently saved and shared with friends.

“The Visit Halifax Mobile App is a go-to resource that showcases the entire Halifax Regional Municipality,” says Lyall. “Using the App enables people to find new Halifax attractions or places to visit to further enrich their experience.”

The VisitMobile platform will allow Destination Halifax to update content instantly and continuously, thereby communicating with visitors in a timely manner. Industry operators update their own information on the backend of the Destination Halifax website.

According to a recent Trip Advisor survey, 60 per cent of travelers with mobile devices have downloaded one or more travel App, and 38 per cent have used their mobile devices to plan a trip.
